(Clockwise from panel with flag): The Venezuelan flag represents your insight into the importance of approaching HD from a genetic standpoint and overcoming many hurdles to build a pedigree and obtain blood samples. The finding of the triplet repeat begins in this panel and winds through the research. DNA as the basis and beauty of life is represented throughout. Note that all are beautiful, but none are perfect. In the next panel long and short DNA fragments point to genetically engineered mice. The bands of triplet repeat size are shown in the next panel, along with high throughput arrays and drug screening. Even these new techniques bring us back to basics, like mitochondria (orange) and energetics. The iridescent pieces through the bowl represent the scientists working on HD. Each is a bit odd, some shine brightly, others appear as though they may shine in the future. This wonderful science surrounds an image of you, Nancy. In the center, with DNA, surrounded by your golden hair represented by swirls that represent your hugs, kisses and encouragement. One panel remains blank. This is for the cure. |
